The prospects have shown they're capable of winning in clutch situations, as they defeated goaltender Joseph Woll and the Toronto Marlies in a decisive 3-2 OT victory yesterday.
The win extended their streak to ten games in the AHL, and it was all thanks to Sheldon Dries, who struck first and capitalized on a pass from bruiser Austin Watson to put the Griffins up 1-0.
The Marlies attempted to tie up the game, with Justin Holl patrolling the crease, clearing it, before William Wallinder sent it out of the zone.
Ryan Tyvberg would find a way to get past Carter Gylander, as a shot bounced off of Holl's skate and slipped past the goaltender on PTO.
The Toronto Marlies Succumb to the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2
The Marlies would capitalize on the momentum, as Jacob Quillan would score another goal after cutting through the defense with a fake and putting one past Gylander, 2-1.
Amadeus Lombardi would attempt to score his first goal of the game and would be stopped by Woll's glove, though Austin Watson's relentlessness would pay off, picking up the rebound to make it 2-2.
The game would stretch into overtime, as neither team could find the next goal. But it was Amadeus Lombardi who would take advantage of a Marlies turnover in overtime to make it 3-2, scoring his first goal of the season on Woll.
Carter Gylander, who was reassigned to the AHL recently, has proven to be capable of playing at a higher level of hockey than we've seen him at before.
