The Detroit Red Wings are expected to pick 12th in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, and they're reportedly already eying their next young prospect to join their system.
Barring an event that would be nothing short of a miracle, the Detroit Red Wings will not have the 1st overall pick in the
2025 NHL Entry Draft.
All projections have them landing the 12th overall selection, which would be their 9th straight year with a pick in the 1st 15 selections.
Per Yardbarker, the Red Wings are considering taking help at the forward position and are interested in taking Jake O'Brien of the OHL's Brantford Bulldogs.
O'Brien had impressive numbers, scoring 98 points (32G, 66A) in 66 games; the year prior, he had 64 points (13G, 51A) in 61 games.
Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman and director of amateur scouting Kris Draper were in attendance at a Brantford Bulldogs game earlier in the year, specifically to watch O'Brien play:
Jake O'Brien continues to impress and climb in the rankings, establishing himself as one of the top contending prospects for the upcoming NHL Draft. Based on scouting reports, O'Brien is highlighted as a top playmaker with strong offensive abilities, making him a highly sought-after player by NHL teams.
Last year, the Red Wings selected Norwegian forward
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard with the 15th pick; he's now with the Grand Rapids Griffins and is expected to play an entire year with the team starting in the fall.
The 2025 NHL Entry Draft will begin on June 27 from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, though most team executives and scouts won't be present; they'll instead be at a central location in their playing city.
