Erik Karlsson could reportedly be on the move to this Eastern Conference team

The Detroit Red Wings are one team that is pursuing former 100-point defenseman Erik Karlsson, according to a report from Josh Yohe of The Athletic, and he wouldn't be surprised if they acquire him in the next few weeks.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are a team who have been in trade rumors with the rebuild started by General Manager Kyle Dubas.
In the bigger picture, there is talk of the Penguins' captain, Sidney Crosby, being traded due to the lack of Stanley Cup potential the roster has.
But with no major trades happening lately, likely due to a lack of true value for the target, who could be next on the list?
One player the Penguins could trade is puck-moving, 100-point defenseman Erik Karlsson, who could be a great addition to the Detroit Red Wings' top four.
Josh Yohe's recent statement on the situation puts the Red Wings in the running to acquire Karlsson.
Josh Yohe said that, "I wouldn't be shocked if you hear his name pop up sooner rather than later. Detroit is the team I've heard the most about."
The Detroit Red Wings and Erik Karlsson: A Perfect Match?
Karlsson could be the Red Wings' ace in the hole. With two years left on his $10 million average annual value (AAV) contract, they could open up the ice with his abilities. Of course, they may have to consider demoting Justin Holl to bury his cap space to make this work.
It is one option to consider.
The veteran defenseman could find himself utilized on the power play, giving the team another weapon to quarterback the 1st unit. Instead of demoting Moritz Seider, Karlsson could assume the 2nd right-defenseman spot.
While Seider's role in the lineup wouldn't change, he'd stay in the top RD spot and eat 20 minutes or more on the ice nightly.
Steve Yzerman needs to stop playing the game conservatively and add some firepower to the team if he is to end this playoff drought, going on nine years now.
