The Detroit Red Wings offseason continues, and they could lose their shot at acquiring forward Jack Roslovic on the open market, all to an original six rival, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Detroit Red Wings could use another middle-six forward in the lineup. That could come in the form of Winnipeg Jets former 1st-round pick, Jack Roslovic.
The former Carolina Hurricanes scored 39 points (22-17) last season as a middle-six forward in Rod Brind'Amour's system.
Roslovic would prove himself a capable playoff performer after a scratch, scoring 4 points in 9 games.
While the Hurricanes didn't sign the forward at the beginning of free agency, with $10.6 million in available cap space, the Red Wings have the Hurricanes to compete with, along with the Maple Leafs.
Eric Tulsky could reward Roslovic with a figure of $3.5 million to $4 million AAV. With no resolution in sight, could the two camps be in a standoff?
For Roslovic, securing a new contract in the NHL is crucial if he hopes to continue his career as a professional hockey player. Rather than settling for a PTO down the road, maybe it is better that another team steps in and signs him.
That could be the Red Wings, but it appears the final competition for Roslovic will be between the Maple Leafs and Hurricanes.
GM Brad Treliving is looking to fill the
Mitch Marner-sized hole in the lineup, and as a former teammate of
Max Domi in Columbus, Roslovic could be the guy to tap into to take advantage of that chemistry.
All that matters now is who gets an offer to him first that he'll agree to.
It appears that this late in the postseason, the Yzerhands aren't busy but once again being sat on.
