The Detroit Red Wings have a major opportunity to show their strength on Thursday by crushing New York Islanders' Matthew Schaefer's historic run.

What better way to recover from breaking a five-game winning streak than completing a task no other organization has been able to?
On Wednesday, the Red Wings fell 4-2 when hosting the Buffalo Sabres, which ultimately led this Original Six franchise to break their winning streak.
However, just one day later, the Wings have the opportunity to prove their value by crushing an historic run.

This past Wednesday, the Islanders earned their fourth-straight victory against the San Jose Sharks, 4-3, by Schaefer winning the game-winning goal.
Matthew Schaefer, who was selected first overall by the New York Islanders in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, has posted his first career two-point game as he continues his impeccable start.
This 18-year-old has a point in each of his first six NHL games thus far, which is the longest streak by a rookie since Jonathan Toews scored in his first 10 games back in the 2007/08 NHL season.
That being said, Schaefer is now just one game shy of tying Alexandre Daigle (1993/94 NHL season with the Ottawa Senators) for the longest career opening streak by a player 18 years of age or younger in the expansion era.
Now, that being said, the Red Wings will be given the opportunity to crush Schaefer's historic run.
On Thursday night, the Detroit Red Wings get the task of doing what no other organization has been able to complete yet by slowing down the New York Islanders' rookie, Matthew Schaefer.
Do you think the Detroit Red Wings have what it takes to crush New York Islanders' Matthew Schaefer's historic run?
