On this day in NHL history, the Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers completed a trade which sent Peter Ing to Detroit for a 7th round pick in 1994 (Chris Wickenheiser).

The Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers combined for a trade on August 30, 1993.
The deal would see the Red Wings add skill to the crease for a 7th-round pick in 1994.
While the 7th-round pick in 1994 would go on to become Chris Wickenheiser, the Red Wings reinforced the crease with Peter Ing.
Originally a 48th overall pick in 1988 by the Toronto Maple Leafs, he'd join the Red Wings for their 1993-94 campaign.

Peter Ing and Chris Wickenheiser's Fate in the NHL after this completed trade

Peter Ing would go on to play only three games for the Detroit Red Wings before he'd find himself as a journeyman in minor-league hockey.
His ending record: 5.29 GAA, 1-2-0, 15 GA, and an.853 SV%.
The goalie would play 7 more games in the organization with the AHL's Adirondack Red Wings, and begin his journey through the IHL, playing for the Fort Wayne Komets and Cincinnati Cyclones.

Chris Wickenheiser

The goalie that the Edmonton Oilers used to draft with the 7th-round pick in 1994 wouldn't fare much better.
He'd play four games in two seasons with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs in 1997-98 & 1998-99, with his best record: 2.25 GAA, 1 win, and a .933 SV%.
That wasn't good enough, as his sample size was small, and he'd begin his minor-league career in the AHL, and shift downwards into the ECHL.
He'd finish his career in 2000-01 in the WPHL with the Monroe Moccasins, with a 7-8-3 record, 3.11 GAA, and an .886 SV%.
